September 1950, U.S Navy Minesweeper ship. Spent 6 days spraying serratia marcescens in the the air off the northern coast of California. Serratia Marcescens is a species of rod shaped, gram negative bacteria. It is a facultative anaerobe and an opportunistic pathogen. It lives in soil and water. Symptoms include meningitis, endocarditis, bacteremia, pneumonia, and urinary tract infection. This bacteria is known to produce bright red pigment and is used to conduct experiments. The Navy says the purpose of doing this was to "determine the susceptibility of a big city like San Francisco to a bioweapon attack by terrorist. " The bacteria spread fast in the city and to surrounding areas, the navy claimed not to have any knowledge of the effect that this bacteria would have on people. After some time 11 people checked into the hospital with complaints of a urinary tract infection. During testing, the doctors noticed a red color in the patients urine. An investigation was put on
