What's this strange obsession with Saturn? Part 1

Before we dive into this strange obsession with Saturn, let's learn a little bit about the history and mythology of Saturn.

Saturn or Saturnus in latin, is a Roman god, who has a similar backstory and identifies with the Greek god Cronus or Kronos. Who we will talk about later.

Saturnus is the god of sowing or seed, also described as the god of generation, wealth, agriculture, periodic renewal, justice, dissolution and liberation. In art he is often see wielding a scythe. ( side note: the scythe is also a symbol of freemasonry, often seen embedded in an hourglass. an homage to the god of saturn? )

He is said to have ruled in the Golden Age of Man. The most popular Roman festival "Saturnalia" held around the time of the winter solstice is in honor of god Saturn. This festival heavily influenced the holiday we now celebrate, Christmas. ( side note: a lot of holidays we celebrate have Pagan origins )

Now for Saturn's Greek origins. Greek and Roman mythology are considered one in the same. As Greek religion became Romanized, Saturnus became more closely associated with the Greek god Cronus, ( or Kronos ) who is the lord of the universe and of time, also known as the god who devoured his own children.
Now that we have learned a little bit about the history and mythology of the god Saturn. Let's learn about the actual planet Saturn!

The astrological symbol of the planet Saturn appears as a scythe or sickle, kind of like how Saturnus and Cronus are seen holding one.

Saturn is the 6th planet from the sun, and the second largest in the solar system. Saturn is the most distant planet that can be seen with the naked eye.

Saturn was well known to the Babylonians.

Saturn has a perfectly formed hexagonal pattern of clouds on it's north pole and a vortex that looks like an eye over it's south pole. Scientist can't seem to explain them.

Saturn is dubbed "The Lord of The Rings".

Ancient cultures revered Saturn the earth's first "sun".

Now that we've learned the basics of the god Saturn as well as the planet, let's get into the "controversial" side of this lesson. To be honest, if you're not open minded or willing to put on your "They Live" glasses, you might as well click out now. We are about to go down the rabbit hole of societies strange obsession with Saturn.
